Atlanta Falcons take ASU football’s Frank Darby in 2021 NFL draft

The Arizona State Sun Devils made it three wide receivers drafted in as many years with Frank Darby selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 3 pick of the sixth round, the No. 187 pick overall.

Darby’s selection comes after N’Keal Harry was picked by the Patriots on the last pick (32nd overall) of the first round in 2019 while Brandon Aiyuk was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round (25th pick overall) last season.

He is the 254th player drafted out of ASU. It is the eighth consecutive NFL Draft with at least one Sun Devil selected. Since 1961, ASU has had at least one player selected in each draft with the exception of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Darby is the seventh in Sun Devil program history to be drafted by the Falcons but the first since linebacker Robert James in the fifth round of the 2008 Draft.  The most prominent Sun Devil-Falcon alumni is likely Gerald Riggs, who finished his career with 8,188 rushing yards and 69 touchdowns from 1982-1991 – seven of those coming with the Falcons.
