ASU’s Anthony Valencia seeking fourth Pac-12 wrestling title Sunday

No. 9 Arizona State wrestling is a heavy favorite to win its fourth Pac-12 title in five years Sunday at Oregon State.

ASU is looking to qualify at least seven wrestlers, out of 10 weights classes, for the NCAA Championships, March 18-20 in St. Louis.

Anthony Valencia can become a four-time Pac-12 champion, joining Eric Larkin (1999, 2001-03) and Markus Mollica (1993-96) as the only Sun Devils to do so. But it won’t be easy for No. 4-ranked Valencia at 165 pounds, where Stanford’s Shane Griffith is ranked No. 1 with a 33-0 career record including his 3-0 win over ASU’s Josh Shields in the 2020 Pac-12 165 final. Shields also was trying for a fourth conference title.
