Diners, Drive-Ins and Dunks?
Sure, why not. Guy Fieri, the celebrity chef who is a Food Network staple and owns restaurants in Phoenix, was one of the fans at Phoenix Suns Arena on Monday night, watching the Suns defeat the Denver Nuggets 122-105 in the NBA playoffs.
People noticed. To hear social media tell it, Phoenix is the new Flavortown.
The game had plenty of stars on the court — Devin Booker, Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton and Nikoli Jokic. Fieri was one of the off-court celebrities who showed up, becoming particularly animated during an Ayton dunk in the first quarter.
Of course, if you’ve watched any of Fieri’s shows, you know that “animated” is his default state. He raves about all kinds of food, so it’s not surprising that he’s an enthusiastic fan (or that he can snag court-side seats).
And it’s not as if Fieri is a stranger to these parts. He’s visited at least 25 restaurants in metro Phoenix. And he tweeted a thank you to the Suns and a person identified as a Jim Beam representative, along with a picture. “Had an amazing time last night!”
He’ll get a chance for another amazing time Wednesday, when the Suns host Game 2 of the series.
