COVID-19 tests for international travel: Questions and answers

In a Jan. 26 news conference about a new COVID-19 testing requirement for travelers entering the United States, the U.S. Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had a strong message for anyone planning an international vacation soon:

Delay your trip and stay home. 

“Our main message to U.S. citizens considering traveling abroad remains the same:  Seriously reconsider going overseas right now,” Ian Brownlee, acting assistant secretary of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, said.

Brownlee said if you cannot obtain a test or you test positive, you can end up being out of the country much longer than you planned. If that happens, he said, you will be responsible for covering your own lodging and medical costs.
